How to Get to Starfish Beach Phu Quoc: 2025 Guide
Starfish Beach Phu Quoc is one of the island’s most iconic destinations. Famous for its population of vibrant red starfish living in shallow, crystal-clear waters, it’s a must-see for any visitor
But what many travel guides don’t tell you is that getting to the starfish requires a bit of planning. Their location changes, and the journey is part of the adventure. This guide will give you all the local knowledge you need for a perfect visit.
What Makes Starfish Beach So Special?
Unlike any ordinary beach, this stretch of coast offers a unique natural encounter. The sight of dozens of bright red starfish dotting the sandy seabed is truly unforgettable. It’s a fantastic place for photography, wading in the calm, warm water, and simply appreciating a beautiful natural phenomenon.
A Important Note for Responsible Travel: Please remember to look but not touch. Taking starfish out of the water is harmful to them and damages the ecosystem. Let’s all help preserve this beauty for years to come.
A Moving Destination: The Starfish Migration
Here’s the most important thing to know: the starfish move!
Depending on the weather and sea conditions, the starfish populations migrate to different areas to find the best environment.
- During the Dry Season (approx. November – April): You will most likely find them at Bãi Tắm Hàm Rồng on the northern side of the bay. This is the location you see in most photos.
- During the Rainy Season (approx. May – October): They often move to calmer waters on the other side of the bay, near Bãi Sao.
How to Get to Starfish Beach, Phu Quoc
There are two main ways to get to the starfish, but one is significantly easier than the other.
Option 1: By Boat from Rạch Vẹm Fishing Village (Recommended)
This is by far the most convenient and popular way to visit Starfish Beach. Local boats depart regularly from the pier at Rạch Vẹm, the oldest fishing village on the island.
The short, scenic boat ride drops you off right where the starfish are known to congregate, saving you from the long, hot walk and ensuring you don’t waste any time
What to know when you go:
You’ll find many local operators and restaurants in Rạch Vẹm offering boat trips. As with any popular destination, we recommend confirming the price and what’s included before you book.
For a clear and reliable reference, you can check the pricing on our dedicated Starfish Beach Boat Trip page
Option 2: The 4km Walk (For the Adventurous)
It is possible to walk to the starfish areas from the main road. However, this path is only for the truly determined.
Be prepared for a long, 4-kilometer (approx. 2.5-mile) walk along soft sand under the intense sun, with little to no shade.
What to know if you walk:
- This option is only recommended for those who are very fit.
- Proper shoes and plenty of water are absolutely essential.
- The walk is challenging and can take over an hour each way.
For most visitors, the boat is a much more enjoyable, efficient, and safer choice.
